APPEARANCE
Chino is about 180 cm tall and very slender, but thanks to his muscles he still weighs about 80 kg. His hair is dark purple and reaches down to his shoulders as a spiky mess. Because of his clan, Chino's irises are bright red and glow whenever he uses his Kekkei Genkai. His pupils are just pinprick-sized dots. Chino's right ear was cut off in a past battle, and Chino has gotten a special hearing device implanted in its place (see Clothing and Special Characteristics). Because of spending most of his time in darknessn Chino's skin is quite pale, which in combination with his red eyes makes some people think he is an albino. Chino's teeth are slightly more triangular than usual, making his grin quite frightening. Chino's limbs and fingers seem to be a little longer than usual, which might be because of his slender form. Either way, this gives him a very slight advantage at some handywork and other actions using the hands.

Chino's hearing device not only has replaced his right ear, but it can also be adjusted by rotating the middle button to hear more quiet noises or partially protect Chino from louder ones. Chino can also attach a headset microphone to make the hearing device act like a radio, allowing him to hear other people with radios and vice versa. When undercover, Chino wears a black demonic mask that only reveals his mouth.

Chino usually wears black clothes with dark purple and red elements. His most usual outfit consists of a black sleeveless shirt with a V-styled neckline. Under it he wears a thin, black shirt with long sleeves. His wrists are covered with purple bracers. Chino's black sweatpants are kept up by a red cloth wrapped around his waist. The belt also carries two thinner sword sheaths on the right side and a single larger on the left side, and three medium sized scrolls in the back (one for Instant Blueprint Inscription, one waterproof for Portable Waterfield and one blank. Chino usually wears black ninja boots with steel tips. The boots are longer than normal; they reach up to his knees and the top part of them resembles his bracers. He also has fingerless black gloves with a metal plate on the back of the hand. On the metal plates, there are small seals. The left one contains a very large amount of shuriken and the right one, kunai.

PERSONALITY
Chino is slightly more intelligent than the average person. He is good at analyzing and understanding situations, has great memory and understands pretty much all basic ninja terms and rules (not like he cares about them). He has spent a lot of his time studying ninjas and the world, both by traveling and studying from books.

When not spying or in a battle, Chino is nearly always grinning slightly and looks like he is always plotting something. He is usually foul-mouthed and rude, but in a mischievous way. He usually prefers to stay hidden and work undercover, but if he somehow gets into a battle he probably mocks his opponents, especially if they are weaker than him, and likes torture them and play around with them before killing them. However, if the difference in strength isn't too big or the opponent is even stronger than him, Chino suddenly gets serious and fights all out. As his basic nature is still stealthy, he is always ready to use one of his trademark Fuuinjutsu to escape battle. When undercover in a city, Chino nearly always uses the basic Henge no Jutsu to mask himself.

Chino is honestly and undeniably a sadist. He enjoys watching other people's pain and often thinks of killing as the first choice. However, when he is supposed to be undercover, he'll usually just put the Seal of Amnesia on people who spot him, although he usually mutters angrily when he is forced to do this. Chino enjoys killing so much, he often goes on short killing sprees after just spilling the first blood, sometimes laughing maniacally. His irises also seem to enlarge into feline-like slits when he goes on these sprees. This however doesn't affect his vision or anything, just making him look much more maniacal. After these sprees, he is often in a near-ecstasy like state for a while.

Chino is also an anarchist. He hates nearly all sorts of rules, especially those that tell him not to kill people. He hates politicians and decision-makers, as he thinks they just boss people around and don't live by their own rules. Freedom was actually Chino's greatest reason to abandon his village.

When Chino is bored, for example listening to someone talking, Chino sometimes gets bored and starts exaggerating it. Even if he actually is listening, he will usually start fooling around with items. One of his favorite "games" is crushing sushi into balls, throwing them into the air and catching them with his mouth. He sometimes also fools around with his jutsu.

Chino has great endurance, both physical and chakra. He has trained to run faster than the usual ninja but still using less energy, and the same with chakra: it actually appears if he had 15% more chakra than usual.

Speed
Thanks to intense ninja training from young age and his agility, Chino is 15% faster than the average ninja.

Agility
Chino is very agile, nearly acrobatic. He can easily climb on walls without chakra and succesfully execute acrobatic Kenjutsu. Chino is also ambidextrous (uses both hands as well).

Stealth
Whatever Chino does, if he so wants, it will probably make no sound. This enables him to easily sneak around and steal from people.

Hearing Device
Due to his right ear being cut off, Chino always wears a special hearing device in its place. He can adjust the hearing device to hear more quiet sounds, but if turned too loud any sound can be a great distraction. Also, without it, Chino is half-deaf.

About 1/10 of the clan members are born with a special Doujutsu called Yarumagan. In terms of appearance, it makes their eyes bright red. However, in addition, the clan member will be able to see
1. in complete darkness,
2. heat (infra-red vision)
3. and chakra.
Whenever they use these abilities, their red eyes will glow. The abilities require a very small amount of chakra. Even though they can see chakra, they won't be able to see the Tenketsu.

Clan History
The Kurayami clan hails from the Lightning Country. In the middle of a small valley circled by mountains, there exists a small village. The village is almost completely isolated by the mountains, only a small river flows out between them. Few outsiders even know about the village, and most villagers know almost nothing about the outside world. Thick clouds were always covering the village, letting only a little glimpse of light inside, so it was always dark; one could barely know night from day. Heavy rains weren't rare at all, either, but after living their whole lives in the village the people had gotten used to the circumstances. One small clan had done so more than others; they had actually developed a Doujutsu, a Kekkei Genkai, to make their lives easier and gain an advantage compared to the other villagers.

It is told that the founder of the village was an extremely powerful shinobi who wanted to get away from the unpure world. He took his large clan with him and with his Suiton Ninjutsu, propelled the boat upstream and towards the mountains. They found a comfortable, peaceful valley where they built a village and settled to live. All the villagers descended from them. This might of course be just a myth, but to honor their so-called forefather, the villagers have passed on the ninja skills, even though they have never been needed in the isolated valley. They are taught to all children of the village, but nearly none of them ever get to experience real battle.

About fifteen years ago, a member of the Kurayami family wondered if he could find better fishing spots downstream. He took his boat and sailed out of the village. When he returned six months later, he was completely hysteric, in a good way. He told the whole clan about the exciting and wonderful outside world, where there are countless places to explore and things to experience. Soon the whole clan was just as excited as the man, only the clan leader was kind of sceptic. However, due to the clan's will, they all left the village and started spreading around the ninja world, mostly the Lightning, Earth and Fire countries.
